- Watch sunlight sparkling on a stream as it flows over and around rocks.
- See leaves dancing in a gust of wind.
- Be transfixed by swirling skirts, scarves, and hair as a dancer moves to music.
These are the experiences Kathryn Leventhal-Arnold captures in metal and enamel.
Sitting in front of a computer for over 20 years as a technical writer and project manager has driven Kathryn to search out movement and texture. She appreciates opportunities to engage in the world away from text on a flat screen.
Kathryn’s passion is taking a flat static piece of metal, hammering, folding, or twisting it before adding color through the use of enamels to create dynamic jewelry. Whether simply through the design created by the play of colors on metal or through the actual twists and textures of the metal each piece provides a dance of light and movement. Light playing over translucent enamel on textured metal creates depth and movement. Even the use of opaque enamels adds to the movement by providing a contrast to the deeper and more complex appearance of the translucent enamels over textured metal.
Kathryn enjoys concentrating on the small details to create a complex and delicate design. But, she also cherishes the opportunity to work abstractly, simply letting metal and mood shape a design. The ability to combine these two very different sides of Kathryn’s personality enable her to create unique jewelry that draws the eye and encourages touch.
Kathryn Leventhal-Arnold lives in Saint Louis, Missouri.
